Diagnostic Summary
Our range of diagnostic services includes:
• Engine management faults. • ABS faults •Airbag faults •Misfiring/poor running/poor idle faults • Wiring faults.
Modern vehicles are now fitted with electronic management which controls just about everything your car does; how it drives, accelerates, starts first turn of the key, delivers fuel etc. This makes modern cars much more economical and responsive, and is all achieved through a multitude of sensors located throughout the engine.
When all these sensors are working, the car will be at its best. However, if one of these sensors fails then the car will more than likely experience all sorts of problems. Now, you may think, how do I know if there are any sensors that have developed a fault?
Well, when you switch on the ignition of your car you will find lots of lights shining out at you, some red, some amber and some maybe green. Once the car has started these lights should go out after about 5 seconds maximum. They should continue to be extinguished whilst normal driving. You may now ask, what are these lights for?

Well, as you approach a set of traffic lights you will find three lights, Green, Amber and Red. They mean, Clear to go, Proceed with caution and STOP!
The same usually applies if you see any of these lights appear on your dashboard: • Green usually means all is well, e.g. indicators flash green when operated • Amber usually means caution – something may be not quite right but you may drive on with care. Amber dashboardlights are often used for ABS, ESP, Service, water & oil level systems. Other symbols may well be used as well as lights. Your handbook will explain their significance • Red means STOP! Something has failed and driving on (if you can) will usually cause more damage. Red lights or symbols are typically used for oil pressure and electrical charging systems.
OK, you know about the colours but what do you do after you have seen one of them come on? Green is perfectly fine, but amber means you need to get the problem identified before anything else can happen. Remember the traffic light sequence? Green, Amber; RED. As soon as you see amber you should take your car to a specialist such as Stranraer Services to locate and rectify the problem.
If you see a red light you need to call us urgently so that, if necessary, we may arrange the uplift of your car for repair in our fully equipped workshops.
Do not travel any further when you see a RED light.
So what do we charge for a basic diagnostic, plug in and see roughly what is wrong? Just £30 plus VAT. When the fault has been identified you can either repair it yourself or book your car in with us for repairs to done.
